Top 10: Sara Bareilles Songs

Here is a list of what I think are the ten best songs by Sara Bareilles!

10. "City" - Little Voice

A sad song about feeling lost, unwanted, and alone. Even more of a tearjerker when you can actually relate to it.

9. "Love Song" - Little Voice

This is the song that rocketed Sara into fame. What I enjoy the most about this song is the ironic story behind the lyrics: Sara's record label was pressuring her to make hit "radio-friendly" love songs, but rejected most of her submissions. Out of frustration, Sara came up with this song that cleverly showed her label that she can totally make a hit song about anything - including not wanting to write a love song!

8. "Gonna Get Over You" - Kaleidoscope Heart

This song is probably the catchiest out of all of Sara's songs. It makes me want to dance whenever I'm feeling down. Plus, the music video for this song is hilarious!

7. "Gravity" - Little Voice / "Manhattan" - The Blessed Unrest

These two songs tie for the number 7 spot because they are both beautiful piano-based ballads that invoke the melancholy emotions of a failed relationship. "Gravity" is one of Sara's first songs, while "Manhattan" was written for her latest album about a recent break-up with her boyfriend of 7 years.

6. "Let The Rain" - Kaleidoscope Heart / "Little Black Dress" - The Blessed Unrest

Both of these songs are about letting go of your problems in order to move on in life. "Let The Rain" is about the rain washing away your problems and making a brand-new start, while "Little Black Dress" is about dancing all your worries away.

5. "Come Round Soon" - Little Voice

This song is very jazzy and soulful with some melancholy undertones. It is presumably about Sara's father leaving the family after a divorce (but this rumor has not been confirmed). I love this song because it's just so different from Sara's usual style; it just feels more raw and dark.

4. "King Of Anything" - Kaleidoscope Heart

I love this song because it sounds so upbeat and happy, when in fact it's basically another "F**k you" song from Sara to her record label. (Think of it as Love Song: Part 2.) It's super catchy and the "oh oh"s just hook you in from the start.

3. "Eden" - The Blessed Unrest

Sara is able to cleverly incorporate metaphors and allegories into her songs; and yet, the comparison is subtle enough that you are still able to understand the meaning of the song even if you don't understand the actual story of Eden. Also, the "electro-pop" vibe in this song is something new for Sara, and it sounds pretty cool.

2. "Parking Lot" - The Blessed Unrest (bonus track)

Sometimes, it seems like Sara's best songs never make it onto an actual album. This song is one of them. What's so interesting about this song is that it's the only song in which Sara actually refers to herself in the lyrics: "Sara stop it, pick out your paralysis and unlock it..."

1. "Lie To Me" - Once Upon Another Time

My favorite Sara song is "Lie To Me" because of its dark, dramatic, emotional vibe (don't ask me why I like all the depressing songs, because I don't know). It caught my attention the first time I heard it, and now I just can't stop listening to it!
